Getting Started

Tap the one player start button at the title screen, then the two player start button if you'd like to lock swords with a human opponent. After a brief tutorial, the character select screen appears. Press the controller in any direction to highlight one of the fighters in the center of the screen, then press light slash to select that hero. Now you'll want to choose a fighting style. Press up and down to switch between Power or Speed, then tap light slash one more time to begin the game.

Movement

When your first fight begins, press left and right on the controller to walk in those directions. Holding left lets you block any attacks that come your way. Tap left twice in rapid succession to make a hasty retreat from your rival, and right twice to run toward your foe. Hold down to duck, and press up to jump. Pressing left and right when you jump lets you leap in those directions, and pressing left while ducking lets you defend against foot sweeps and other low attacks.

Counterattacks

The repel attack is back in The Last Blade 2, and it's more useful than ever! When your opponent is preparing to strike, tap the repel button to counter the attack and leave your rival temporarily stunned. Now you've got an opportunity to fight back! Tap the repel button for a free hit, or press the slash or kick buttons to take a chance and possibly do more damage. Just make your decision quickly, because your rival won't stay dazed forever!

Matches

Each battle is split into three rounds. At the start of each round, both fighters are given a full health bar. As the characters take damage, their health bars deplete. The first fighter to empty the other's health bar is declared the winner of that round, and the first fighter to win two rounds is declared the victor of the fight and moves on to a tougher opponent. If you've lost a fight yourself, don't give up hope! Just press the one player start button for a rematch!

Controls

Each fighter in The Last Blade 2 is given three basic attacks: a weak slash, a hard slash, and a kick. Weak slashes do minimal damage but are very fast. Hard slashes do heavy damage but take longer to perform. The kick is moderately damaging but can knock down opponents. Finally, special attacks can be accessed by entering a joystick motion, followed by one of the three attack buttons. For instance, Tetsuma's Skyward Strike is performed by pressing right, down, right, and hard slash.

Tip: Speed Is What You Need

If you're a first-time player, you're better off picking the Speed fighting style. This mode lets you easily chain together combos by repeatedly tapping the light slash button while standing next to your opponent.

Tip: The Wind-Up

Like in most fighting games, a special attack performed with the hard slash button does more damage than one executed with the weak slash button. However, in The Last Blade 2, it takes much, much longer to perform hard special attacks. Experiment with them in the first relatively easy fight to get a feel for the timing.
