Getting Started
Press the one player start button to begin the game, or the two player start button to sock it to a human opponent. Press the controller up or down to highlight either the SNK Cup (a tournament featuring the world's greatest teams) or the Vs. mode (a single game against another player). Once you've made your decision, press the kick button to lock in your choice. At the team select screen, highlight your favorite team and press kick to confirm your decision.
Offense
A game of soccer begins with the kick-off. Press the kick button after the whistle blows to try to take possession of the ball from the other team captain. If you get the ball, press the controller in any direction to dribble the ball in that direction. Tap the kick button to kick the ball for long distances, and push the pass button to gently kick the ball to one of your teammates. The arrow next to your character indicates the direction the ball will roll after you pass it.
Defense
If a member of the other team takes the ball from you, you can always persuade them to return it. While on defense, the kick and pass buttons become slide and tackle buttons. Press the slide button to trip up your opponents, and the tackle button to hit them with a jarring shoulder tackle. The tackle has the most power, but the slide has greater distance. Remember, don't play too rough, or a foul will be called against you!
Goals
The object of Super Sidekicks is to score more points than your opponent. A point is scored when you kick the ball past the other team's goalie and into their net. Each match is split into two halves, each three minutes long. Once both halves are finished, the team with the most points is declared the winner. If you've lost a match while fighting for the SNK Cup, you can restart that match by pressing the one player start button within ten seconds.
Tip: Never Give up!
Be aggressive when shooting for the goal! If the goalie blocks your shot, race for the ball and take another shot, or even better, quickly pass the ball to a teammate and then shoot it. If you're quick, you can often score a goal even after the goalie blocks your first shot.
Tip: Ace Players
The best players on each team are marked with the word “Ace.” For your best chance at victory, keep the ball in the possession of your ace player, and away from the other team's ace.
