Controls
After a brief explanation of the controls, you'll be taken to your first race. The horses are kept behind metal gates before the race begins, with your steed marked by a small red icon. When the gates swing open and the race starts, use the controller to move your horse around the track. Tap the rein button to pull on your reins, making your horse run faster. You can increase your speed even more by tapping the whip button.
Getting Started
Press the one player start button to begin the game. A name entry screen will appear. Use the controller to highlight each letter of your name, then press the rein button to confirm your choice. Once you've entered your name, set the horseshoe on the word END and press the rein button. You'll proceed to the stables, where you can select a horse. Press left or right to choose a steed, then press the rein button to lock in your choice and start the first race.
Stamina
Remember, your horse can only be pushed so far before it runs out of stamina! Its energy is shown at the bottom of the screen as a red bar. When you pull on the reins, the horse loses a little of its stamina. When you smack its behind with the riding crop, your horse's stamina drops even faster. Once the red stamina bar disappears completely, your horse will be too tired to walk another step! What do you expect? It's only one horsepower!
Races
The object of each race is to reach the finish line before the other horses. If you can finish in first, second, or third place, you'll earn prize money and advance to the next race. The better you do in a race, the more prize money you'll receive. If you finish behind three or more other horses, you won't win any prize money, and the game ends. Press the one player start button before the continue timer expires to repeat the race you lost.
Tip: What, No Sugar Cubes?
Items are often scattered on the later tracks. Collect the carrot to give your horse an energy boost, and the wings to launch your horse ahead of the pack.
Tip: Outta My Way!
Trapped behind another horse? Not for long. Tap toward it twice in rapid succession to give your rival a friendly nudge, and take its position in the race.
Tip: An Added Bonus
There are bonus rounds, accessible after you've won a few races. These rounds challenge your skill as a racer -- if you can beat them, your horse's speed, stamina, or strength rating will improve.
