Basics
In Space Quest III, you can control Roger by either using the mouse (point and click where you'd like to go) or using the directional keys, and type in which actions you want him to perform. Press the Escape button to open up the game's menus and access more commands such as save, load, inventory management, and game speed.
Commands
Everything in Space Quest is done through a typing interface at the bottom of the screen. Don't make your commands too specific, or you may confuse the system. Best to keep it short and simple, like the Lone Ranger's Tonto. Commands like "look room," "open desk," "take blaster," and so forth are the most effective in this game.
Tip: Diagonal Movement
To walk diagonally (up and down stairs, for example), make sure NumLock is turned off on your keyboard and use the number pad for movement. 7, 9, 1 and 3 are all diagonal movement buttons now.
Tip: Speed Up
To speed things up, tap the F3 key to repeat whichever command you typed last.
Tip: Saving
Save early and often. It's very easy to get a "game over" in the Space Quest series. For instance, at the very beginning of the game, go south one screen and try to pick up the piece of metal leaning against the Jupiter spacecraft.
