Lives
Maxima and Rocky begin the game with five life points. Each time one of our high-tech heroes is attacked, one of those life points are lost. When all five life points are lost, your character drops to the floor in exhaustion, and you'll lose a life. When all three lives are lost, your soldier explodes, and the game is over! Press the one player or two player start button to resume the game from the point where you lost your last life.
Controls
Maxima and Rocky have hydraulic-powered fists, capable of punching a hole through solid steel. Tap the punch button while standing near enemies to put this power to good use. Press punch immediately after a jump and you'll perform a crushing jump kick. Finally, you can grab your robotic rivals simply by walking into them. Once an android is in your clutches, tap the punch button and you'll chop them in half with a single swing of your arm!
Getting Started
Press the one player start button to begin your battle against Jeed's android army, then the two player start button if you'd like a little help from a friend. After a brief introduction, Maxima (and his sidekick Rocky, in a two player game) will appear on the left side of the screen. Press the controller in any direction to walk in that direction, and the jump button to activate the thrusters in your legs, briefly lifting your heavy frame off the ground.
Here, Catch!
Those arms are good for more than just punching! Anything you find lying around can be picked up and used in your battle against the demented Doctor Jeed. Just walk toward the item you wish to pick up, then press the punch button to lift it. Cars and jeeps can be thrown at your enemies, discarded robot limbs can be used as blunt weapons, and powerups like the gas can and hyper ball increase your life points and super weapon energy, respectively.
Super Weapons
Our heroes are also given a super weapon, which is fully charged at the beginning of the game. Tap the super button, and blue waves of energy will engulf the screen, destroying all nearby enemies. The power of this weapon is reduced every time it's used, and once that power has been completely depleted, your fighter will only kick when the super button is pressed. The "hyper ball" meter at the top of the screen indicates the remaining amount of power in your super weapon.
Tip: Big Back Attack
Some robots refuse to fight you face to face, and will try to sneak in cheap hits while your back is turned. You can deal with these cowards by pressing punch and jump together. You'll knock them away with a backward kick that's even stronger than your standard punch!
Tip: Hold Your Fire
Make the most of your super weapon by rationing its use. Don't use it all until you're down to your last life, and almost out of energy. When that happens, feel free to use the super weapon until it runs dry. You'll get a recharge after you lose your last life and continue the game.
