Movement
Once the fight's started, you'll need to defend yourself from your opponent. Press left or right on the controller to walk in either direction. You can also run by tapping left or right twice quickly. You can block attacks by holding the controller away from your opponent. Holding down makes your character duck until you release the controller, and tapping up makes your fighter leap into the air. Finally, press the line change button to switch between the background and foreground.
Getting Started
Tap the one player start button to start the game. After a brief tutorial, you'll be sent to the character select screen. At the top of the list are the newcomers Rick Strowd and Xiang Fei. On the bottom are all your favorites from past Fatal Fury titles. Pick one of the available heroes by highlighting him or her with the controller, then pressing any attack button. Next, select your first opponent with the controller and any attack button, and your first fight will begin.
Matches
The fights in Real Bout 2 are in a best of three round format. Each player gets a full life bar at the beginning of a round, and when a fighter is rocked with attacks, his life bar shrinks. The first player to empty his opponent's life bar and knock him out is declared the winner of that round. Win two rounds and victory is yours! If you lose, you can always return to the fight by pressing the one player start button before time expires on the continue screen.
Controls
Like in the past Real Bout games, every fighter has three basic attacks. You'll perform them by pressing the punch, kick, and hard attack buttons. Punch is the fastest of the three, but does the least damage. Hard attack does the most damage, but is slower than the other two. All the fighters have their own signature attacks called special moves... these are executed with a joystick command (for instance, down, down-right, and right), followed by an attack button.
Power Meter
Notice the power meter on the bottom of the screen? It rises as you hit your opponent with attacks. When it's half full, the power meter becomes an H-meter, and you can perform special “break shot” attacks which counter your opponent's strikes. Fill it completely and the power meter becomes an S-meter, allowing you to break out your fighter's super move. If your life bar is red, the S-meter becomes a P-meter, unlocking your most powerful attack!
Tip: Fore-grounded
Some fights in Real Bout 2 take place on a single plane. Only the foreground is available to fighters in those stages, with the background replaced by an electric fence or other nasty hazard. Needless to say, you'll want to stay away from the background in these stages whenever possible.
