The world of Quad is divided into a cross shape with a holding pen in the center of the four channels. While you're in a vertical (up and down) channel, you can only move side-to-side; in a horizontal channel, you can only move up and down. To move to the channel opposite your current position, simply tap in that direction. To move into a perpendicular channel, touch the channel wall in the direction you want to jump.
The Runts are contained within the central pen and will occasionally make a mad dash for freedom, not realizing that when they reach the outer electrified wall they'll be fried. Your task is to put a stop to the evil Captors while protecting the Runts from their "flight" instincts. When you see a Runt making a break for it, move into its channel and touch it to prevent it from running away.
The Captors come in five different varieties and always move up and down. They can only be stopped with the use of your Phaser Ball -- press the fire button to attack. Remember, you only have three shots, and there are five Captors per round, so once you shoot you should jump to the opposite side to catch your Phaser Ball. Bumping into a Captor will also deplete your Phaser Ball count. If you run out of ammo, it's game over.
The bar at the top of the screen is the Critter Counter. It becomes smaller each time a Runt is killed or a Captor gets past you. If the Critter Counter is reduced to zero, you lose. Battling the Captors might seem a bit tricky at first, as you have only limited control over your character, but with a little practice you'll be blasting away like it was second nature.
Every six rounds is the Crazy Crazed Wave, in which all varieties of Captors come after you. Fortunately, the Critter Counter is restored at the beginning of the Crazy Crazed Wave.
Yo-Yo Captors are tricky, but like their namesake they always return to their point of origin. When you see one, wait patiently for it to snap back to where it first appeared and open fire.
If you're on your last Phaser Ball, you must be absolutely certain to catch it. Remember that bumping into a Captor will cause you to lose a ball -- but if you're on your last ball and shoot it before you're hit, you can keep playing.
Brat Captors will follow you everywhere you go. Try moving to the opposite side of the screen and firing when it tries to approach you.
