Getting Started
Press the one player start button to begin your mission, then the two player start button to recruit a friend. After a brief introduction, your heroes will appear on the left side of the screen. Use the controller to guide them around the playfield, the jump button to jump toward or away from enemies, and the flip button for a stylish ninja backflip.
Powerups
Even the best ninjas need an edge in battle. Luckily, you'll find all kinds of weapons and strength boosters in Ninja Combat. Break open the oil cans and other objects in your path to uncover these helpful items, then walk over them and press the punch button to collect them. Scrolls increase your life points and the power of your throwing stars, while axes, hammers, and swords add punch to your attacks.
Lives
You begin the game with three ninjas, each with four life points. A life point is lost when you call upon your ninja magic, or are knocked down by an enemy. When all of your life points are gone, you'll lose a life. Lose all your lives and the game is over. Press either the one player or two player start buttons to resume the game from where you lost your last life.
Controls
Your ninja is armed with throwing stars. Tap the fire button to send a spray of throwing stars toward your enemies -- a few is all it takes to defeat most foes. You can also launch yourself at your opponents by pressing the flip button, then the fire button immediately afterward. Finally, hold down the fire button for two seconds, then release it to fill the screen with deadly ninja magic. Note that this attack will cost you one life point.
Tip: Don't Axe, Don't Tell
Surprisingly, it's not always smart to collect a weapon. If your throwing stars are at full strength, just use them instead; they've got much better reach than even the longest battle axe.
Tip: Spellbound
That ninja magic is there for a reason. Feel free to use it whenever you think you need it. You'll use one of your life points, but the close-quarters combat you just avoided could have cost you all of them!
Tip: Ninjas Know Best!
Although you'll unlock new characters after every round, it's best to stick with the two default ninjas. They're the fastest, most balanced fighters in the game.
