The Party

Once you've finished making your heroes, choose Go To Towns to begin assembling your party. Select the members of your party with the arrow keys and press enter to confirm each choice. Once you have selected six characters, your quest can begin. Select Leave The Inn to start exploring the first town on your journey.

Getting Started

You will need to assemble a party of six characters before you can begin the game. Might and Magic II offers its own cast of heroes, but you may also customize your experience by creating your own team of warriors. Select Create Character at the title screen to begin making your fighter. You'll be given a randomized list of statistics for the character. If you're not satisfied with the stats you're given, select re-roll and you'll be given a different set of stats.

Character Creation

When you are satisfied with your character's abilities, press enter to advance to the next step in the character creation process. Use the arrow keys to select your character's occupation and press enter. Then choose your hero's race: human, elf, dwarf, gnome, and half-orc. Press enter again to advance to the alignment. Your character can be good, neutral, or evil.

Controls

You'll appear in the middle of the town. In Might and Magic II, you'll view your surroundings from a first-person perspective. Press the up arrow key to walk forward and the down arrow key to take one step backward. Press the left and right arrow keys to turn in those directions. When you find a door in your path, press up to walk through it. Occasionally, you'll find signs in your path; press the enter key to stop reading the sign and resume your quest.

The Menu

Press the menu key to access your menu. You'll be given a variety of different options. Rest allows your heroes to recover from their injuries. Search lets you examine your surroundings for items. Unlock opens locked doors and treasure chests. View Char lets you examine one of your party member's current statistics. Dismiss removes one hero from your party, and Exchange lets you select each hero's position in the party. Select Cancel to leave the menu and resume the game.

Combat

You will encounter monsters while on your journey. If you choose to fight these evildoers, each character in your party will be given a turn to attack them. A combat menu will appear when it is your turn to strike. Choose Attack to take a swing at a random monster in the enemy's party, or Fight to select a specific enemy to attack. Shoot lets your archers fire arrows at monsters, while Cast lets magic users cast spells. Block protects your character from attacks, and Use lets you use items in your inventory.

Tip: Balance

Create a diverse and well-balanced team of fighters, so that the strengths of one member can compensate for the shortcomings of another.

Tip: Level Up

Don't rush into battles you can't possibly win. Spend time fighting weaker enemies until your party members have gained enough experience to survive conflicts with more powerful monsters.
