Controls
You'll begin your journey in Sorpigal, a humble village with shops, a church, an art gallery...and oh yeah, plenty of monsters. Use the controller or arrow keys to guide your newly named hero through the tight corridors of Sorpigal. You'll view all the action from a first person perspective. To walk forward, press up. To walk backward, press down. To turn in place, press left or right. You can walk through unlocked doors and climb stairs by pressing up while standing in front of them.
Menu
You'll need to access the menu to perform certain actions. Press the menu button to bring up the menu screen, then select from the options that appear. Pick Search to examine your surroundings and possibly find hidden items. Choose Cast to use magic spells. Select Open to open locked doors or treasure chests. Pick Use to use items in your possession. Choose Row to reorganize your party. Select Camp to rest your heroes. When you're finished, select Cancel to return to the game.
Monsters
While on your journey, you'll cross paths with monsters. Some of them are horrifying beyond description, and others, well, they're not really all that frightening. However, any monster you face could kill you if you're not careful. When you first encounter a monster, a menu appears with four different options. Select Attack to battle the monster. Select Bribe to attempt to pay off the creature with the gold you've accumulated. Choose Run to make a hasty retreat, or Give Up to surrender.
Combat
After starting a fight with a monster, you're given a more robust set of options. Auto automates the fight for a single turn. Fight lets you attack your enemy. Use lets you use items in your inventory, and View checks your health and statistics. Block lets you defend yourself from attacks, Protect allows you examine your resistance to the elements, and Row gives you the chance to rearrange your party members. Finally, if the fight isn't going your way, select Run.
Tip: Saving
Save frequently to avoid the heartbreak of starting over from the beginning.
Tip: Maps
Map each of the towns you'll visit. That way, you'll always know where you're going and the first-person perspective won't leave you feeling lost and helpless.
Tip: Safety In Numbers
Build a party of warriors as quickly as you can to even the odds while fighting difficult monsters.
