Enemies and Obstacles
The laser gates are force fields that appear throughout your mission. You must navigate past them quickly or risk taking damage. Densepack columns, which are solid gray in color, must be shot with holes to pass through. Gun turrets appear at the top and bottom of the cavern to shoot at you. You will also face flying enemies, including homing missiles, rock munchers and the dreaded byte bat.
Winning
Just when you think your energy reserves are about to go, an energy pod (bright green square) will appear. Pick it up (don't shoot it!) to refuel. Watch your "D-Time" to see when the failsafe detonator will appear. It is large and gray and has the numbers "6507" on its side. To destroy the detonator, shoot one of the pins on its side. Be careful -- some of the pins are booby trapped!
Basics
You can move the Dante Dart in all four directions. Press fire to shoot missiles. Your ship's score and stats are reflected on the bottom of the screen. Energy depletes at a steady pace, but can be replenished with energy pods. Shields are damaged with each collision, including the walls of the cavern. D-Time tells you how much time you have left until the next failsafe detonator explodes.
Tip: Random!
Each level of Laser Gates is randomly generated, so you won't face the same order of enemies twice in a row.
Tip: Stay Left
Stay to the left side of the screen to avoid getting hit by enemies that appear quickly from the right. This will also give you more time to line up your shots.
Tip: Turn Around
Unlike most classic sidescrolling shooters, your ship is able to turn around and shoot behind it. This will enable you to take out enemies that fly past you, such as the byte bat.
