The Basics
In King's Quest IV, you can control Rosella by either using the mouse (point and click where you'd like to go) or using the directional keys to move. Type in the actions you want her to perform. Press the Escape button to open up the game's menus and access more commands such as save, load, inventory management, and game speed.
The Parser System
Many tasks in King's Quest are accomplished through a typing interface at the bottom of the screen. Don't make your commands too specific, or you may confuse the system. Generally, a verb/object designation is all you need, like "open door" or "take crown".
Tip: Repeat
To speed things up, tap the F3 key to repeat whichever command you typed last.
Tip: Getting Around
To walk diagonally (up and down stairs, for example), make sure NumLock is turned off on your keyboard and use the number pad for movement. When this is done, 7, 9, 1 and 3 become diagonal movement buttons.
