Basics
Guiding King Graham through this fairytale is a simple process of pressing your arrow keys. Press up if you want him to head to the top of the screen and left if you want him to go left, and so on. To make Graham jump, hit the "0" key on your keyboard. Hit "-" to make him duck and "=" to make him swim.
Commands
King's Quest II was published before Apple brought mice to computers. Video games had joysticks at this time, but computer games were mostly text-based adventures. With these old games, players controlled their characters by typing commands. If you want to pick up a stake on the off chance that you will later encounter a vampire, type "take stake" on the command line. Should you find a magic lamp and desire to make a wish, you might type, "rub lamp."
Gameplay
King Graham lives in an interactive world. When you see large rocks, try to push them to see if there is something underneath them. Shake trees, open mailboxes, and approach anything that is living.
Tip: Fairy Tales
Roberta Williams created puns and puzzles based on classic fairytales into King's Quest II. While thinking Grimms will not solve every puzzle in the game, it may speed you along.
Tip: Saving
There are about one million ways to die in the land of Daventry, and several dead ends. Save your game often or most of your King's Quest experience will be spent replaying familiar scenes.
Tip: Puzzles
Most of the puzzles in King's Quest II are action oriented, but not all of them. Some puzzles require you to simply wait in one place. Others require you to go to the same location multiple times.
Tip: Maps
The world of King's Quest II is vast and unfettered bound by the rules of the real world. Make maps as you go, you'll save yourself time and frustration in the long run.
