Commands
King's Quest was published before Apple brought mice to computers. Video games had joysticks at this time, but computer games were mostly text-based adventures. With these old games, players controlled their characters by typing commands. If you wanted Graham to search a flowerbed for hidden items, you would type: "Look at flowers."
Gameplay
Daventry is an interactive world. When you see large rocks, try to push them to see if there is something underneath them. Climb trees, enter caves, and approach anything that is living.
Controls
Guiding Sir Graham across the land of Daventry is a simple process of pressing your arrow keys. Press up if you want him to head to the top of the screen and left if you want him to go left. You've got the idea. To make Graham jump, hit the "0" key on your keyboard. Hit "-" to make him duck and "=" to make him swim.
Tip: Saving
There are innumerable ways to die in the land of Daventry, and some dead ends that leave you unable to proceed. Save your game often or most of your King's Quest experience will be spent replaying familiar scenes.
Tip: Around the World
Should you get lost in Daventry, remember one rule--the land is a sphere. Walk as far as you can in any direction and you will end up right where you started.
Tip: Maps
The geography of Daventry is vast and unfettered bound by the rules of the real world. Make maps as you go, you'll save yourself time and frustration in the long run.
