Powerups
Unlike Ikari Warriors, ammunition is unlimited so you never have to worry about running out. Special pickup icons can be found scattered and hidden throughout the levels, which increase your firepower or add temporary armor. Your troopers are pretty fragile, so be on the lookout for anything you can find to even the odds!
Controls
Your character can move and aim in eight directions -- left, right, up and down, as well as diagonally. You can move and shoot independently, which allows you to fire at enemies in one area while dodging incoming fire from another. Press the Fire button to shoot at foes with a machine gun, or the Grenade button to chuck an explosive.
Tip: Green Plates
If your goal is survival (rather than a high score), stay away from the green metal plates that appear on the ground. If you even get close to one, you’ll be warped into a battle against a powerful mini-boss.
Tip: Search Everywhere
Valuable pickups are hidden within the terrain. In the beginning, the game will show a gleaming flash of light in the spots that hide something good. After a while, it’s up to you to find the hidden power-ups. Make it a habit to shoot away as much of the terrain as you can, even if there is no gleam of light.
Tip: Mini-Bosses
If you do choose to warp into battle against a mini-boss, you will need to exploit its unique weak spot. For example, the giant stone head has a hole on top of its head. To defeat this monster, you need to throw grenades into it.
Basics
Victory Road is a pretty simple concept. You've got one guy with a machine gun, and they've got innumerable troops, huge robots and vehicles, and immense firepower. And your goal is to take that little gun-toting soldier and blow up everything you can on your way from one end of each level to the next.
