Getting Started
Press the one player start button to begin your journey through the danger-filled Japanese countryside. At the character select screen, press left or right on the controller to select the warrior you wish to play, then press the attack button to confirm your choice. Your hero will appear on the bottom left hand corner of the screen, prepared for battle.
Controls
Move the controller left or right to move in those directions, and tap the fire button to lash out with your katana. Hold down the fire button and release it to unleash a blast of mystic energy, perfect for taking the fight to distant enemies. Press the jump button to jump, and the chain button to throw a bladed chain. The chain can be used as either a weapon or a grappling hook, allowing you to swing on poles and reach otherwise inaccessible ledges.
Stages
The object of each stage is to rescue the kidnapped maidens and find the exit, where a powerful boss awaits. When a maiden is freed from her bonds, she will reward you with items such as life-giving sushi, gold coins, and a variety of brutally efficient ninja weapons. You can also find these items hidden inside wooden chests; just slash them open to claim the prizes inside them.
Lives
Musashi and Suzume begin the game with three lives, each with a limited amount of energy. Energy is lost when either hero is struck by enemies or their weapons. When the energy bar at the top of the screen is empty, one life is lost. When all lives are gone, the game ends. Press the one player start button to continue from the last checkpoint your reached.
Tip: Death From Above
Mushasi and Suzume are just full of tricks! You can get the drop on enemies simply by stomping on them...any ninja unfortunate enough to be under you when you fall will be put into, heh, permanent retirement.
Tip: Don't Mean a Thing
The chain can only be swung left or right, and can only hook onto vertical poles. Fortunately, this includes not only wooden posts, but full-sized trees as well.
Tip: That's One Sharp Blade!
Many of the weapons in Ganryu are awkward to use. You're generally better off relying on your katana; it's much faster and won't leave you vulnerable in close-quarters fights.
