Powerups
You'll also find wooden boxes, oil barrels, and trash cans scattered throughout each stage. Break open these containers and you'll find helpful items hidden inside them. These include weapons like swords and knives, along with food and valuables. The food increases your health, and the valuables are worth bonus points.
Lives
Your fighter loses health when he's assaulted by the Mad Gear gang, or comes in contact with hazards like fire. When the health meter at the top of the screen is completely empty, your character is knocked out, and you lose a life. Lose all your lives and the game is over.
Getting Started
Press the one player button to begin Final Fight, or the two player button to hit the streets with a brawling buddy. When the character select screen appears, move the cursor over the fighter you wish to use, and press the attack button to confirm your selection. Remember, in a two player game, each player must select a different character!
Controls
After a brief introduction, your character will appear on the left hand side of the screen. Press the controller in any direction to walk in that direction. Press the attack button to swing your fists, and press jump to leap upward. Press the attack button and the jump button at the same time to do an energy-draining special move.
Enemies
Your enemies are the members of the Mad Gear gang; you'll find them hanging around in every stage. Each one has a different fighting style, but all of them harbor a grudge against you! Use your fighting skills to knock out these punks and advance to the end of the stage, where a boss is waiting to challenge you. Defeat the boss and you'll advance to the next stage.
Tip: Secret Weapon
Each fighter has a special move which can only be performed by that character. For instance, Haggar can piledrive enemies by grabbing them, pressing jump, then pressing attack.
Tip: Weapons
Any weapon can be picked up by any of the three heroes, but each fighter has a personal preference. For instance, Cody is most comfortable with knives, while Haggar prefers the brute strength of a lead pipe. Guy's ninja training gives him proficiency with the katana.
