Challenges
The goal of CJ in the USA is to navigate the tiny pachyderm through a series of vertically and horizontally scrolling levels full of enemies and hazards, collecting CJ’s siblings along the way. CJ is armed with an unlimited supply of peanuts, which he can shoot through his trunk, and a limited supply of bombs, which can be tossed and banked off of ceilings and walls. Bombs are collected from some fallen enemies.
Basics & Goals
If you’ve played CJ’s Elephant Antics, then you’ll be familiar with CJ in the USA’s controls. CJ can be controlled by moving left and right across the screen. To jump, press the jump button. To shoot an unlimited supply of peanuts from his trunk, press the fire button. CJ can also toss bombs once he finds some. To toss a bomb, press down on the controller.
Tip: Dumbo Drop
CJ's umbrella allows him to drop slowly from high platforms without losing a life. This is also used to navigate him through some tricky spots. When jumping blindly off of a ledge, keep an eye on what's below and maneuver CJ accordingly. Oftentimes, a set of spikes or enemy will be waiting just off screen.
Tip: Keep an Eye Out
Like most of this style of platform game, precision jumping and timing are required to survive and successfully make it through a level. Take your time and pay attention to what's coming up next -- especially keep a lookout for spiked floors, as they tend to blend in with the scenery.
