Getting Started
Press the one player start button to start your journey through space, or the two player start button to invite a friend along for this wild ride. The ship select screen will appear, offering you a half dozen space fighters with their own specialized weaponry. Press left and right on the controller to choose a spacecraft, then tap the fire button to confirm your selection. Once you've made your choice, the game will begin.
Powerups
You'll earn bonus points and strengthen your weapons by collecting the items that float through each stage. Collect the winged eggs and the blue gems to increase your score, and grab the red P icons with the spinning edges to increase the size of your energy meter. This not only boosts the power of your standard shots, but lets you store more energy, increasing the duration of your laser blasts.
Controls
After a brief tutorial, the first round will begin. Move your ship around the screen by pressing the directional controls. Tap the fire button to fire your ship's cannon. The faster you tap fire, the more intense your firepower becomes, so keep pounding that button until it smokes! You can also charge your laser blast by holding the fire button, then releasing it when the energy meter at the bottom of the screen is filled and flashing.
Lives
Each stage concludes with a towering boss enemy. Fire at it until you find its flashing weak points, then continue to concentrate your fire on those points until the boss is blown to bits! Unfortunately, your own ship cannot take this kind of punishment. Get nicked by a bullet or fly into an enemy and you lose a life. Lose them all and the game is over. Press the one player or two player start button to resume Blazing Star from the point you lost your last life.
Tip: Do You Feel Lucky?
"Lucky" icons are hidden inside every stage. They're worth a lot of points if you can find all five of them, but the only way to flush them out is with explosions. Destroy as many enemies as you can until all five icons are revealed, then grab them to cash in on the bonus at the end of the stage.
Tip: Be Fruitful and Multiply
Don't just blow away thousands of alien creatures... do it with style! Try to take out multiple enemies with a single blast of your laser. Every foe you destroy will be added onto a multiplier that makes subsequent enemies in the chain worth up to 128 times more points than if you blasted them alone!
