Basics
Betrayal at Krondor is split up into chapters, though the game itself is fairly non-linear. Feel free to wander around and explore at your own pace, as you never know what you'll find as you revisit certain areas from chapter to chapter.
Movement
Movement of your party is controlled by the movement icons at the bottom of the screen. Click and hold in any direction to move your party that way. If you're standing in a road, clicking the "follow road" icon will make your party travel down the road as you'd expect.
Controls
Betrayal at Krondor is a mouse-driven game. Generally, the left mouse button is used for interaction. Clicking on something with the left mouse button is the equivalent of "using" that item. Clicking on something with the right mouse button will normally give you a description of that item, or a hint on how to use it.
Menu
Use the action buttons to perform other actions. Encamp will allow your party to stop and heal slightly, but only if there are no enemies around; Cast will bring up the spell list; Camp Until Healed is self-explanatory; Map will bring up the overhead map, which you can use to move your party more quickly around the world; Bookmark will allow you to quickly save your game; and Options will take you to the options menu.
Tip: Easy Cash
For fairly easy money, buy some ordinary quarrels and poison them with Silver Spider or Silverthorn, then sell them at a tidy profit.
Tip: Rest Up
For every thirty days your characters rest, they get a little increase in their maximum health and stamina. If you keep getting your head handed to you in combat, see if you can't find a safe place to sleep. Your characters will still eat every day, however, so make sure you have enough rations!
