Getting Started
Press the start button at the title screen to begin. You'll be taken to a brief tutorial, which explains the basics of the game. Press either the punch or kick button to skip it and advance to the character select screen. Here's where you'll pick both your hero and your first competitor. Press left and right on the controller to highlight each fighter, then tap either punch or kick to choose that character.
Special Moves
Like its predecessor, The Art of Fighting 2 is all about balance. Each fighter has an arsenal of incredible martial arts techniques which can be accessed with a controller motion (for instance, down, down-right, and right), then one of the attack buttons. However, each of these special moves will drain your chi, shown at the top of the screen as a green bar. Hold down punch, kick, and throw all at once to catch your breath and regain your inner strength.
Controls
When your first fight begins, press left and right on the controller to move in those directions. Hold down to duck, and tap up to jump into the air. When you're attacked, press the controller away from your foe to block his strikes. When you're ready to fight back, tap the punch and kick buttons to send your fists and feet flying toward your rival. Hold down the buttons for slower but more powerful strikes. Finally, tap the throw button while next to your enemy to hurl him to the ground!
Lives
Each fight takes place over the span of three rounds. A round begins with both fighters at full health. As a character takes damage, his health (shown at the top of the screen) drops, and when the bar is empty, he's knocked out and the opponent wins that round. The first fighter to win two rounds advances to a battle against a new, more difficult rival. If you've lost, you can always get back into the action by pressing the start button at the continue screen before time expires.
Tip: The Big Tease
Taunts aren't just for humiliating your opponent! Tap the taunt button as your rival attempts a special move and their chi meter will drop, taking the potency out of an otherwise dangerous attack.
Tip: Quick Attack
Your computer opponents are tough, and will counter practically everything you throw at them. However, you can soften them up a bit with light punches thrown from a crouching position. These attacks don't do much damage, but are especially difficult for your rivals to block.
