Getting Started
Press the one player start button to begin Andro Dunos, or for double the action, press the two player start button to have a second player join in the action. After a brief tutorial, the game begins, with your ship on the left side of the screen. Use the directional buttons to move it around the screen, and tap the fire button to fire your cannons at approaching enemies.
Super Moves
In a tight spot? You can always use a super attack to clear the screen of enemies and tip the odds in your favor. Hold down the fire button until the bar at the top of the screen is full. When you release the button, you'll fire a devastatingly powerful version of the currently selected weapon. However, that weapon will lose one level of strength. The super attack cannot be charged if the currently selected weapon is at its lowest level of strength.
Weapons
Your fighter is equipped with not one, not two, but a total of four weapons, which you can switch on the fly. Just press the switch button to cycle through the available choices. Your weapons include a straight shot, reverse fire, diagonal laser beams, and a spread shot, especially useful for clearing the screen of dangers.
Powerups
All four available weapons can be powered up by collecting "S" icons, which are released by the last member of a formation of alien ships. Switch to the weapon you wish to power up, then collect the floating "S" icon to boost its strength. When a weapon has been boosted, it affects the other attacks in your arsenal... for instance, if you power up the straight shot, then switch to the spread shot, you'll fire both of them at once.
Lives
You'll begin Andro Dunos with three lives. One life is lost if your ship collides with enemy fighters, their bullets, or other playfield objects. Lose all your lives and the game is over. If you're not ready to concede defeat, just press the one player or two player start buttons before the continue timer expires to resume the game from the spot you lost your last life.
Tip: The Deluxe Package
There are other power-ups aside from the weapon boosts! Collect the "U" icons for escort ships that protect your from stray bullets, and the ?M? icon to fire homing missiles at those hard-to-reach enemies.
Tip: All Your Eggs in Four Baskets
The spread beam (weapon four) is probably your best attack, but don't rely on it exclusively. Try to boost all four of your weapons at least once... that way, you can fire them all at once, and you'll have plenty of energy stored up for super attacks.
