Goal
Despite having 27 different play modes, Air-Sea Battle's controls stay pretty simple. The main goal of the game is to outscore your opponent within the 2:16 time limit of each round. If either player reaches 99 points before then (a true feat), the game ends immediately. You can also play solo and try to beat your personal high score.
Basics
During anti-aircraft play, push up to raise your cannon perpendicular to the ground. Push down to sharpen the angle of fire. In some modes, pushing left or right will slide your cannon in that direction. Press the action button to fire, and in guided missile mode, push left or right to adjust the trajectory of your projectile.
Moves
In torpedo games, you will always fire straight up. Push left or right to position your submarine and press the action button to fire. Again, if you're using a guided missile game variation, you can adjust your projectile's trajectory in mid-flight.
Gameplay Modes
In Polaris and Bomber modes, things get a bit more interesting. Your vehicle is constantly moving, and pushing up will make it go faster while pushing down will reduce its velocity. War may be hell...but when it's pixellated, it's pretty darn fun.
Tip: Keep At It
The only strategy that will lead to success in Air-Sea Battle is to learn to judge your missile's trajectory and the velocity of your target. There is no way to learn this other than practice, practice, practice.
Tip: Semi-Auto Turrets?
Remember that your rate of fire changes depending on which game mode you're playing. Adjust your firing time accordingly.
