Basics

1st Division Manager is a fairly complex and rewarding management simulation that allows you to handle many aspects of a front office manager. Move the on-screen pointer (represented by a spinning soccer ball) to select and make your choices and press the fire button to confirm.

The Office

To start the game, select your team from one of four divisions: Premier, 1st, 2nd and 3rd. Once a team has been chosen, you are then taken to the Office Menu, where you can manage your team via a variety of menu screens -- which are represented by images of a computer, a telephone, a notepad and a soccer field -- as well as see important information, including standings, current cash flow and your team rating.

Menus

By clicking on the computer, you can access your team?s database and perform a variety of operations, such as training, updating records and checking out upcoming events. Using the phone will allow you to buy and sell players, as well as contact the bank and apply for a loan or make a payment. Accessing the notebook menu gives you tables for all four divisions. Lastly, when you?re ready to send your team into competition, choosing the soccer field will get you to your next match.

Matches

The object is to cultivate a winning team by applying management and coaching skills over a season. While you don?t actually get to control your players on the field, you do get to watch action highlights from each game via a top-down perspective. Before a game, choose which players will be participating in the match, as well as their positions, then sit back and watch your decisions in action. When a match is over, you will get results from the game, injury listings and finance reports.

Tip: Quick Match

To jump right into a quick match, select a team and then choose the soccer field option. You can choose to accept or decline the offer of sponsorship, then just select your players for the game and choose continue.

Tip: Management

When managing your team, always keep an eye on your bank balance, as it can quickly be tapped out by expensive players, wages, interest rates, injuries and other factors.

Tip: Resting

Make sure to manage your team members wisely by resting them whenever possible. Not only will this help them avoid and recover from injury, but it will also improve their performance on the field.
